Whether I am pissing in the wind or not, I have expressed my concerns directly to the UTEP athletic department. I am worried about ballooning to 24+ teams. It then not working. Then the eastern teams break off and form a conference. The western teams break off and form a conference. Then UTEP is stuck with the leftovers such as UTSA, UNT, Texas Southern, La Tech. Sure, we save some coin on travel but lose our asses in attendance.

I don't think it is off to a great start. It would be hard to imagine that CUSA/MWC just barely kicked the idea around the last few months and decided to do it on a whim. Pretty sure that Memphis, Boise, San Diego St, Houston, SMU, and UCF all knew this could happen. They were lucky enough to find something else. Now, alleged target Temple is also going to the Big East. BSU, SDSU, SMU, Houston, and UCF were in the works a very long time. Memphis was lucky to get in and was very last minute. Sure, they all wanted to get into the BE for a long time but the BE only took Memphis at the 11th hour. It is very public how hard ECU tried, but failed, to get into the BE. Who is out there that is a truly valuable team? Buzz at the SBC tournament this week, has North Texas joining the "Alliance". Do we as Miner fans really give a fuck about UNT??? I don't see what the big deal is about playing Rice, Tulsa, or any other potential Texas team. We can schedule them in the non conference. I, myself, do not want to go past 16 teams. I can live with 18. I don't have a lot of interest in 24 or 30. I am very concerned about ending up in a pod or division with UNT and UTSA. I want to be tied at the hip with UNLV, UNM, and Nevada. What has making the move to CUSA done for football recruiting? Nothing. 2 small bowl appearances and the usual losing seasons since 2005. Basketball recruiting is a non factor in Texas. It might piss off some central texas alums, but we need to be West. Our recruiting woes are our own fault. Conference exposure is but one element. Limited success shouldn't be blamed on conference affiliation. If this "Alliance" thing crumbles, we just need to join the MWC. Playing New Mexico and Nevada is better than anything the remaining or potential CUSA teams have to offer. I don't think the UTEP admin has the balls to be aggressive, sadly. ECU and Marshall and doing whatever it takes to create the regional compact eastern conference they always wanted. I won't miss playing ECU or Marshall but I am concerned they will break away from the Alliance once they align themselves with 11 eastern time zone teams. Then what? We would be stuck with the UNT's, UTSA's, and La Tech schools that we elevated into the Alliance. I don't like that. Our AD needs to constantly be talking to UNLV, Nevada, UNM and make sure we are in their long term plan.

I think you are reaching at straws. Coaches are constantly granting interviews. Coach Floyd is a national name. It is a good thing that people in California want to talk to him.

Free throws, lay ups, and short jumpers. Couldn't hit 'em. They couldn't miss free throws.
Coach Floyd's double T's were calculated. That was obvious. Almost worked as we got within 2.
Before the season, most guessed we'd be a .500 team. After the first few games, some worried we wouldn't even win 10 games. We got hot, we improved, and we forgot how young, thin, and injured we are. Back to reality. Hopefully we beat SMU, a few games in the tourney, and get an invite to the CBI. Better yet, lets get red hot and win the tourny. Why not?

I dont know Binks. Phil Johnson doesnt seem like a great hire by any means. He didn't do anything at San Jose St. Unless its an up and coming assistant or a proven coach, I don't they're a good basketball hire here. He did keep the machine operating while Coach Floyd was away all week. Coach Johnson was a great hire.

I hope Coach Floyd goes at least 5 to 10 years. Again, hope. Coach Johnson is the obvious replacement. UTEP usually goes with an assistant and he has obviously been groomed to take the spot. I would love to see him go 10 years as our head coach when the time comes. I wonder if Johnson will groom Foster the way Floyd has groomed him. We could have our coaching staff in place for the next 30 years.

How do you turn down Oklahoma though? That is 52K right there. That will also a few hundred season ticket sales as well. We already told Stull we don't want FCS cupcakes. At this point, I don't think a MAC, WAC, or SB team is what we need to spark attendance. This is a great idea in my opinion. Yup, the Miners are going to get waxed against OK, Wisconsin, and Ole Miss. Would replacing OK with a cupcake really salvage attendance after OOC games?

I want no part of that version of the WAC. It's terrible. CUSA, MWC, the Alliance. or a new conference with select schools from the MWC and CUSA. Absolutely no to the WAC.

No, the new WAC is far worse than the new CUSA. Still, I say UTEP, Tulsa, Rice, and Tulane ditch the rest and hook up with the MWC.

Except for Randy, none of our seniors gave a shit about the UNM game. They had their degrees, they weren't in the NCAA Tourny, they didn't care.

You are constructive though. Nothing wrong with calling out a team. A 15 point lead is a 15 point whether you are 13 freshman or 13 seniors. I understand the reason for the collapse but I don't fault anyone who is frustrated with this team.

Everything but the first game has been established for some time now. Correct, though the dates were not known. No, the dates and games of the last 11 games have been floating around for some time now.

The ceiling is only so high. We already knew we were young. Now we are thin. BTW, I hear they are going to retire Hardway's number on Saturday. Too bad I didn't hear this from UTEP but on another forum. What is wrong with UTEP's PR?

It was Coach Floyd's call to play CSU in the first round. For RPI purposes, he wanted to make sure he played CSU and avoid playing two teams w/ very low RPI's.
I don't think we played poorly. Especially considering the UTSA and SFA games. CSU just out hustled us in the last four minutes.

lol, it's a Memphis thing. When we broke their streak, and beat them in the regular season last season, it was because they played badly, not because we beat them.

Everything else in this tournament is just icing on the cake. I am so happy with the effort and improvement in yesterday's game. No Moore. No Vint. No Washburn. Yet we beat an ACC school. I don't even care if they are rebuilding. They are supposed to have access to more resources than us. Go Miners!

I just got back in town. I'll write up a quick recap a little later. I will say this. The Miners were a 17 point underdog. That little spread help me win back all the money I lost during my trip. Thanks Miners!

Moving to the MWC may not be option. Being paired up with MWC schools in the new Alliance conference may be inevitable.
