No, it was followed by an ass kicking. ISU kicked our ass.

Solid win over CSU. Hoping for the 'W' against the Aggies tonight. Go Miners!

I think we get at least two seasons out of him. Probably three. I think he will at least play a second season to play with his brother.

Probably nothing. He probably just wanted to coach at a power conference school and increase his chances of moving up the food chain faster.

I dont think Floyd was ever a candidate at UNM or Tech. Maybe he was at USC, doesn't matter anymore since they hired Enfield. I think we're safe from Floyd leaving until he makes some noise here. That is my point. The local media can put whoever they want on their list. The Alb media did in fact mention Floyd as a candidate. Would he leave UTEP for UNM? Of course not. But the media can still list him.

Grain of salt. The Albuquerque media mentioned Floyd as a candidate. Floyd, or UTEP, can control who the media puts on their wishlist.

Could it possibly be that UTEP knows Floyd is leaving and they didn't accept because of that? Never say never but I doubt it. He has turned down too many jobs. He has too many blue chippers coming in. He is getting up there in age. He has property in parts of the county he actually likes. I don't see it.

LOL. I do have my issues with your constant derailment but not with anything you actually say. I am not a fan of this decision. That place went unmoderated for months. Then the ban hammer out of nowhere? Not good.

Coach Floyd felt no obligations to specifically address the USC rumors. I doubt he will go into great detail about why he decline a CIT and CBI invite. I do know that he visiting a recruit tonight and he is not in El Paso.

I think Floyd is just old enough where he might not want to start over again. The crowd on Tuesday for an overall disappointing team was awesome. He is building something here. Hopefully he stays.

USC asked for permission to talk to him six weeks ago. The three hour conversation took place two weeks ago. The USC AD was in El Paso last night to watch Pastner. I think we are fine.

My biggest concern is who is going to run the point next year? Mackenzie Moore doesn't strike me as a true point guard. Isaac Hamilton appears to be a monster shooting guard or small forward in his last televised tournament games.
CJ Cooper? Josh Brown?

Memphis is the exception and not the rule. I am confident we will get to that level and that amount of talent. A mixture of Isaac, Vince, and the current team doesn't make us Memphis - yet.
I'd love to be wrong though.

I'm expecting a CUSA basketball championship in 2014-15. I think the growing pains continue next year when we reload half the team with freshman.

I only slightly disagree. In theory (only), if we did not lose another game this season, and won two games in the cusa tourney, we would probably be in rpi top 40/45 and have an outside to decent shot of an at large bid.
That is a lot of if's and probably unlikely.
Still, as the "wise man" said, "so you are saying there's a chance..."

Time to pass the hat around, call up Foster and Hunt, and collect about 5 million dollars to bail on CUSA.

They are taking Tulane because of their market. No other reason. Their football sucks as well.
ECU is football only. I would hope UTEP would refuse a football only invite to any conference.

To this day, I never understood why they can't make a list of all bowls according to payout. The highest paying bowl goes on top. The lowest goes on the bottom. You are start at number one and give them #1 vs #2. You go to the second highest paying bowl and give them #3 vs #4. You work your way down to the last bowl. Simply go by the BCS ranking. Done.

Those are two bold assumptions. I don't see how you can recommend action by UTEP when there is not a realistic way to implement that action.
I believe it was the CEO of Under Armor who picked up Maryland's tab. I don't he will do the same for UTEP. Also, I believe, the 5 million dollar exit fee is in stone because UCF, Memphis, and gang were able to bargain their's down.

Who will pick up the tab? That is very easy to write. We are talking about potentially 13 million dollars (if my math is correct) to get into the MWC.

Post by mistabinks on Nov 20, 2012 18:12:21 GMT -5
It is one thing to say we should be in the MWC but how do you go about it?
1. How does UTEP realistically pay the exit fees? 2. How does UTEP fund the athletic budget after they forfeit their share of Houston's, SMU's, UCF's, and Memphis' exit fees. UTEP would also be forfeiting all of Memphis' NCAA basketball tourney credits. 3. After 1 & 2 above, how does UTEP pay for any MWC entrance fees (if there are any).
Also, UTEP had no control over only playing Memphis once a year in basketball. The eastern schools in CUSA banded together and came up with the unofficial east/west divisions to save money on travel. There was no way UTEP would be able to trump 6 eastern schools.
It is my opinion that Bob Stull did not fire Mike Price any sooner because he couldn't afford to - not because of friendship. From credible accounts online, UTEP simply couldn't afford to continue to pay Mike Price guaranteed salary plus a new coach. Coach Price was toward the end of his contract so I believe it was more a financial decision than anything else. Not popular, and not best for the athletic program, but sometimes decisions like that have to be made.

I am not a big fan of Miner Illustrated breaking news stories only to post everything on a paid account. This isn't 1995 anymore. I understand they are trying to make money but you have to be more innovative than that. On twitter, someone not named Isaac Hamilton, tweeted he committed to UTEP. I was not familiar with the name.

I thought it was a quality. It was a statement. At this point, being the 12th youngest team in the nation, and only beginning Coach's second year of rebuilding (yes, I know this is his third year), I am ecstatic with the win.
Oral Roberts was a quality team. I understand they lost a few key players from last year but they are a "name" basketball school. I really liked that choice for our home opener. Sure, they are not an ACC or Big East school but still a good opponent.
My expectation are still on the low end this year. I'm hoping for 20 wins. I think the rebuilding continues next year. A lot of quality freshmen coming in. It's going to be a really fun ride.
