Thanks for the props, Realm. I'm just a passionate sports and UTEP fan who enjoys sharing my sometimes mundane take on things. It's nice to be appreciated for it. Having a passion is important... But Bleed buddy, you have a flair for writing that is a joy to read. Big Thumbs Up !! Realm...

Up to yesterday's game, the Miners did what they had to do: Win their home games & split on the road.
Joe Muench wrote that key Miners are having injury problems. Stone has a bum knee that is restricting his movement.
The sluggishness may be pointing to ALL the minutes the starters have been playing.
Still time for things to shake themselves out.
Memphis game will, of course, be huge. If we win that one then we should be in good shape again.

I still don't have Internet because the wiring in my apt is old and needs to be replaced by a technician at $100/hr... and I won't pay it.
So I'm missing out on my Miners but I do what I can by following the scoring on Yahoo Sports. A poor substitute.
But then I read your analysis of the game AND I feel like I watched it.
Great Article write up!! One of the best I have EVER read.
You're absolutely right... We were on the cusp of winning this game... and then the wheels came off.
How will this affect us in our next game??
I would have paid a subscription to have read your synopsis.

Bleeding,
Loved your detailed reply.
I still don't have Internet so I could only follow the score. Your post colored in the fine details.
This was a very challenging game because of what the refs were allowing SMU to get away with.
Thanks... Realm

Very nicely crafted argument for strengthening Utep's schedule.
Until you mentioned Colorado St., I never realized what was going on.
Thanks for posting this.

After being down 32 - 36, Floyd made great adjustments to get this win.
Containing SMU's big men(Papa Dia & Nyakundi) was key.
How we win without an inside presence is beyond me.
I see a reversal when we play SMU at their house. Hopefully, we will have won the conference by then.
Interesting how we win... and on every message board there is a LACK of conversation about the game.
10,213 in attendance leads me to believe fans are starting to slowly come around to following this team.
The coming games with Southern Miss, Memphis, UCF will be an load to carry.

Only thing I've heard is what I read in the EP Times... Stull and the AD from UCF are trying to come up with a date but there is some gamemanship going on...
If they can't come to an agreement then the Cusa Commissioner will make the final decision.

watched it...4 miners with 4 fouls each going into the final 3 minutes...too many poor officials in cusa...home teams get the benefit of the calls down the stretch...miners were lousy in the paint, didn't defend the "3" but they were in it and led with less than 15 seconds and deserved the win There is difinitely a different(and better) vibe with Coach Floyd at the helm and I'm glad Barbee has left for greener pastures...

U.S. Homeland Security Investigations has taken over the domain name...
Since ONLY the domain name has been taken over... it is very possible that the site's servers(located in Spain) can quickly ressurect itself under a different name...
Stay tuned.

So I wasn't able to watch the Utep - Tulsa game.
In my book, Tulsa & UAB are tough places to win because of the hometown officiating...
But it appeared that Utep played another sub-par game... And once again ... they almost won.
Even when Utep loses... You get the feeling they take something positive from it to help them play the next game.
I would be interested in other poster's impressions of the game as you saw it.

Coach Floyd was very complimentary on Tulsa's win over Utep.
I get the feeling Doug was giving some love back.
Is it deserving?? I think Utep is a very, very good team BUT it is STILL a work in progress.
Ask me that question AGAIN at the end of the season.

But not sure if any of this is in Stull's power to change.
Aberrations like this pop-up from time-to-time but at the end the season things fall into place.

Yep, another game where Utep didn't bring their "A" game and yet they came away with a win.
Never would have happened under Barbee and it pains me to hear posters like UtepDefense saying what a good coach he was for Utep.
Usually I agree with his point of view... but NOT on this point.
Floyd was such a great hire... it has me interested in Miner basketball again.
Nice write-up Bleed.

I ran across a guy at Mt. Sac who told me that Juden was in New Orleans and doing well. Involved with real estate and having a hand in any kind of business activity that could use his business connections to flourish.
All this was before Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans. Real Estate and most businesses went south when Katrina hit... so not sure of his status now.

A couple of nights ago, I watched Auburn play Florida.
Florida won this slugfest with a score of something like 43 - 40.
Barbee has a better team than the score indicates... it just looked like the players wanted to be somewhere else.
Thanks Auburn !!

I hope Floyd weaves his magic and lands him as well... BUT I realize he has the interest of many suitors.
I really like the class that Floyd has already accumulated. He has shown himself to be every bit the recruiter that Barbee was.
AND ON TOP OF THAT... he can coach.

About a month ago, I told my brother that should Utep and SDSU meet in the NCAAs... I liked Utep's chances.
BUT this was before I had seen SDSU play.
I watched SDSU beat New Mexico at the pit by the score of 87 - 77. The game wasn't really that close. SDSU led by 17 in the first half.
These guys can play physical... AND they can shoot the 3 pretty well.
I wouldn't want to see my Miners play these guys because they're pretty tough.

I could only listen to the game on the radio... but I liked what I heard.
It sounded like UAB got a good share of the hometown calls from the Ref... so I am doubly proud of the Miner efforts tonight.
I'm enjoying this team and I can't wait until the tourney here in El Paso where I think we'll be rewarded.

I just wish CUSA would switch to a 2 game home stand and a 2 game road swing. Right now we are home for one game, on the road on Sat, on the road on Wed, then back home next Sat. I didn't realize this was happening until you mentioned it. This hardly makes any sense.

I didn't watch the game with Tulsa BUT when I looked at the stats after the game... I found it very confusing.
How do you fall behind the entire first half... lose every offensive stat... get out rebounded by 10 boards...
AND STILL WIN BY 10 points.
I wish I had seen the game because right now I'm thinking this game was won because of Coach Floyd.
I'll be leaving El Paso this Sunday for a gig in Phoenix... and my biggest regret is not seeing a Utep basketball game in person.
Only 8,671 showed up for the conference opener... that will improve as the conference race starts to take shape.

LOVE the motion GIF! A picture's worth a thousand words... I think one of Price's main goals next year should be to do something about the defense. I know we had some injuries to key players to begin the year, but we aren't going to outscore every opponent we face, and that seems to be the only way this team ever wins. I could count on one hand the number of times I saw a defender within five yards of a BYU receiver. Pathetic... Agreed... but a lot of our recruits for next year have looked elsewhere and accepted other offers.
I fear we haven't turned the corner yet on the defenseive side and we can expect Price to continue to have issues.
Exposure is good... BUT IT HAS TO BE GOOD EXPOSURE... not the sorry excuse we saw in the New Mexico Bowl.
