I agree. The Miners did play well, but Price managed to screw it up as usual. He should have maybe tried a fake field goal on the first attempt and been done with his tricks for the night. I was impressed with the effort, execution, and especially the tackling. This was the first time in 7 seasons that the defense actually tackled their opponents properly.
With that being said, I still expect this to be the Miners best effort of the season. I think Ole Miss will beat UTEP by 2 or 3 touchdowns this Saturday and if NMSU beats Ohio this weekend, I look for them to come in very confident into our matchup.

I might go to one game this season. Haven't decided which one yet. However, tomorrow I will be watching the drubbing from the comfort of my own couch. No way am I going to pay for more expensive tickets and see them turn in their typical lame performance. Add in a lot more people and traffic and the fact I can watch other games during commercials, seals the deal.
So with that being said, who's going?

I think you guys are giving the worst coach at halftime adjustments to much credit. 77-10 OU rolls. OU will be up by 28 after the first quarter, then a dead, tired UTEP crowd will start leaving the stadium. UTEP has zero chance to win. I would bet my life on UTEP not winning if it were possible.
Its going to be ugly!!!!!!!

Sure it is saying much. It's better to point the needle is the other direction. Thats true Binks, but what would you expect if OU was added to any non-BCS schools home schedule? I would say that every single MAC, MWC, SBC, WAC, and CUSA school would have higher season ticket sales with a Top 5 program as the home opener. Again, El Paso has given up on Price and UTEP. Very few fell for the "buy season tix or no OU Tix" UTEP was trying to shove down our throats. 13,000 is not impressive and UTEP missed a HUGE opportunity by not firing Price after last season. Stull continues to barely be in the black because of his bad business decisions. We need new direction, both on and off the field. UTEP has some of the absolute worst merchandise available to their fans and keeping Price is the worst decision he will ever make.

So far only 13,000 season tickets sold according to Stull in the EP times. Yeah more than last year, but thats not saying much, especially with OU and NMSU in September.

Saw that UTEP is going to give away 3 $30,000 cars at the OU game. Um, why? I guess a Top 5 team is not even close to being good enough for El Pasoans to buy tickets to that slaughter. If I were AD, there would be no promotion for that and the NMSU games, save the promos for the crappy games later in the year.
Guess this also means that season ticket sales are really crappy too. Which is no surprise and I want to feel bad for the department, but Bob Stull has no one to blame but themselves. Keep Price around has proven to be a failure on the field and in the box office.

Saw a post on another board the other day and just wanted to write/rant about it. The subject was Mike Price and one poster chimed in that he wasn't going to buy tickets this year because of the last 6 losing seasons. Then another called him a non-fan because he wasn't buying tickets and he's not supporting the program.
My question is, why should he? The so-called "good" fan is upset that another fan is not spending their money on UTEP football. Just because you buy tickets to every game, it doesnt make you a better fan nor does it make your opinion worth more.
UTEP football is a business and its still around because it makes money for the university. I would venture to say all the fans that support the program and bitch about others not buying tickets, dont practice what they preach.
There is no way that any person would go to the same restautant 7 straight times if they had bad service/food the previous 6. They would rightfully take their business elsewhere. Same goes for rude or bad service at places like Best Buy, Sears etc. Why is buying UTEP tickets any different? I applaud those for supporting the program no matter what, but you are in the minority and continuing to support Mike Price is not helping.

Well said Mista. I have also heard about Six Flags and Sea World. Rumor has it that El Paso was approached before San Antonio was to put one/both here and city officials didn't give enough incentive.
The Dallas Cowboys "wanted" to have their training camp here after the successful scrimmages. However, the city shot down that idea too and Jerry Jones went elsewhere and hasn't been back since.
Not sure what NBA thing BO is referring to. I can tell you that no NBA team has ever been considered here. Maybe an NBADL team. Hopefully BO can fill us in.

Apparently SWAC schools get a decent payday when playing on the road. UAPB gives UTEP, and in this case the Sun Bowl Association, a considerable discount. Not worth it.

I agree Strelz. I remember a few years ago, Teicher said on the radio that Haskins wanted to be the first game to get it over with. Maybe Floyd is gonna continue this tradition. The Nebraska v CMU game is the one to watch. Much rather see that than UTEP v UAPB.

You're right Strelz, it should have gone to public vote. I still think it will end up being a great thing for the city.

Well, I can understand your doubt, but I have a good feeling this is going to be a homerun. Yes, El Paso has not supported a lot of minor league teams here, but this minor league product is big city stuff. The Diablos used to draw well, until they switched to the Dbacks. When was the last time the Diablos finished the season with a winning record?
Seeing a bunch of scrubs with little chance to make the pros does not excite many sports fans. The Diablos can only draw using gimmicks. They suck and good riddance to that pathetic organization.
To answer your question about Cohen, the owners do not want to have the team play there. They want them downtown because they have heavily invested there. The city should renovate Cohen to a big time soccer facility or nice outdoor concert venue.
This team will be as close as El Paso gets to major league anything. Its pretty much a done deal and I do not see this deal falling through.

Strelz, its confirmed we're playing UAPB in the first round.
I hear ya 88 and in most years, you would be right. However, this season, UTEP should have no problem with SOS or RPI. I don't have a problem with playing a SWAC level team in the opener, I do have a problem with it being UAPB. We've played them for like 10 years now and the games are boring blowouts.
There are several other schools we could schedule instead. Why not Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, Cal St Bakersfield, Texas-Pan American, Nicholls St, Southern, Alcorn St? Why does Stull ALWAYS have to cram UAPB down our throats? They FUCKING suck!

Nebraska, Central Michigan, and Pine Bluff. I mean seriously, we can't schedule any other team besides Arkansas Pine Bluff? There's 340 D1 teams, can't we find some other scrub team? Like Nebraska and CMU though.

When El Paso joins, they will be taking the Tucson franchise. Tucson currently plays in the Pacific Conference's South Division with Fresno, Las Vegas, and Sacramento. The North Division has Colorado Springs, Reno, Tacoma, and Salt Lake.
In the American conference, the North Division has Memphis, Iowa, Omaha, and Nashville. In the South is Albuquerque, New Orleans, Oklahoma City, and Round Rock.
Right now, we currently would not be in the same conference, let alone same division to our closest opponent. If you look at the South Divison, you can't take out NO, OKC, or RR and ship them out west.
What do you guys think? I really don't think anyone is going to follow the team to Albuquerque even for a big game, but you never know.

I'm gonna wedge my prediction between both of yours (...... um, I didn't realize how dirty that sounded until I typed it) and go with a final record of 4-8. The losses to the big time schools are iron-clad guarantees, and the better C-USA teams will make us their bitches once again. I think we'll find a way to win the ones we're supposed to, though, and beat SMU, Tulane, Rice, and nmsu. The question is, who the hell would want to take over as our coach next year?? I think UTEP could get a pretty good coach next year. A young assistant would be the way I go, unless Andy Reid is available.

Ok, here's what I think will go down.
vs. Oklahoma - Honestly, there is ZERO chance that the Miners win this game. Going with a big L here.
MM Prediction: OU 77 - UTEP 13
@ Mississippi - I have seen some Miner sites predict a win here, not sure what they are smoking. UTEP can't beat anybody good on the road, not that Ole Miss is, but they're an SEC team.
MM Prediction: Ole Miss 42 - UTEP 14
vs. New Mexico State - This is a must win game and the outcome will be determined by how injured and demoralized the team is after 2 big ass kickings. I could see NMSU winning and if they do, might as well fire Price right after the game. Going with my gut though.
MM Prediction: UTEP 31 NMSU 24
@ Wisconsin - Again, UTEP with ZERO chance to win or stay close. Montee Ball will come close to breaking LT's single game rush record this day.
MM Prediction: Wisconsin 63 UTEP 7
@ *East Carolina - Well, here we are at 1-3 and opening CUSA play on the road against a pretty good team.
MM Prediction: East Carolina 38 UTEP 20
vs. *Southern Methodist - SMU is a good team and headed to the Big East, Miners keep it close, but do not have enough to beat the Ponies.
MM Prediction: SMU 34 UTEP 28
@ *Tulsa - Another road contest, against a historically strong Tulsa team. Blowout city.
MM Prediction: Tulsa 56 UTEP 21
vs. *Tulane - Season is pretty much over at this point and Tulane is awful, still able to beat us sometimes. Miners find a way to win.
MM Prediction: UTEP 32 Tulane 17
@ *Houston - Houston should be rebuilding this year, but UTEP has been rebuilding for the last 6. They're still better and its on the road.
MM Prediction: Houston 35 UTEP 20
vs. *Central Florida - Don't know much about this UCF team, just that they will be better than the Miners.
MM Prediction: UCF 21 UTEP 17
@ *Southern Mississippi - Late season, road game against a good team? Loss.
MM Prediciton: USM 42 UTEP 24
vs. *Rice - Will Price get fake arrested this week, assuming he's still around? Think the Miners can pull it out on a hail mary.
MM Prediction: UTEP 35 Rice 34
An embarrasing 3-9 season to end Price's once promising UTEP career. I truly believe it will be this bad. Key to season is the NMSU game. Loss that game and it will be worse!

They are just stupid idiots that think their crappy school has actually done something, when in reality they have 0 NCAA Championships. UTEP has 22. Yeah well, 21 of them are in track. Who cares? In my book, UTEP has 1 championship and it happened 46 years ago. Time to accomplish something else.

I think the exact opposite. I don't see the Mexican fans supporting the MLS team unless a major Mexican star is on the team. If El Paso gets an MLS team, it will need the support of El Pasoans. I think getting an MLS is a super long shot.
