I haven't posted anything on this board in over a year now, but I just read an article about former UTEP coach Jason Rabedeaux that really got to me, and I felt compelled to share it with any other Miner fans who might not have seen it. I have to admit that when I heard about his passing a few months ago, I didn't give it too much thought; my bitterness over the mess he had made before he abruptly left our basketball program had faded to indifference, so my reaction was one of mild surprise but not much real emotion. Having read this article, I feel deeply saddened by his untimely death, and sorry for the man who was once the replacement for the Bear and savior of our team, but ultimately couldn't overcome the demons he tried so hard to defeat. God bless you, Rab, and I'm sorry for how things went. espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/12636370/former-utep-coach-jason-rabedeaux-death-remains-mystery

Realm is also taken back with the details of Rab's demise. Like most people... we have an angel on one shoulder AND a devil on the other.
Who you listen to most... will set you on the path you're supposed to follow in life.
Bleed... Much Thanks for posting this interesting tidbit.
Realm's brother is currently slumming through Vietnam... having watched Anthony Bourdain speak very highly of Vietnam... he decided to visit and he sent this email a couple of days ago. Family and Friends.. I'm currently in Vietnam, in the city of Hue on the banks of the Perfume river. Hue was the capital of the Nguyen emperors. The Imperial Citadel (a World Heritage Site) encloses the emperor's residence, temples and palaces. Today much of it is in ruins. What's left is only a fraction of the original. Most of the buildings were badly bombed during the French and American wars. Only 20 of the 148 buildings survived. What is left is still impressive. Vietnam is a long narrow country, which involves overnight travel by bus. Fortunately, most of the long distance buses are sleeper buses (a 2-tier bunk bed type setup). In two days, I'll be in Hanoi (12 hours by bus). Both Cambodia and Vietnam have an incredible number of motorcycles. Motorcycles park on the sidewalk, which makes walking around the city sometimes difficult. You don't see many cars on the road (5% cars, 95% motorcycles), which is good since most of the city streets are narrow with no room to park a car. I wouldn't exactly call Vietnam and Cambodia walking friendly countries. One of the big surprises on my trip so far is the different foods I have been eating. Going in, I thought Thailand would be the high-lite of my culinary experience. I was surprise to find that I liked Cambodian food even more. Cambodia uses a delicious ginger sauce on many of their foods. Vietnamese food is also a great experience. Each city, seems to have it's own local foods. In other words, the delicious street food you had in Hoi An isn't made in Hue (only 6 hours away). Nice people in Vietnam, when they find out your American they smile and we share a conversation. It's not unusual to find out they have relatives in the States, mostly in California.

This thread could easily have been titled "Remembering Vince"
Realm is NOT surprised to hear Vince Hunter is leaving Utep to go Pro. Personally, Realm thinks it is a Good Move for Vince's career.
Been a bad month for Miner fans.

Good to hear from you, Realm! Hope you're doing well.
I really don't think Vince is NBA-ready just yet. I doubt he gets drafted, and I believe one more year of college ball would have made him a first-rounder in 2016. I wish him well, though, and hope he proves me wrong.
In the meantime, I'm afraid the Miner basketball team is on a fast track to mediocrity. Again, I hope they make me eat my words...

Pretty sad about Rab. He was basically in a no win situation. He had to not only follow a legend, but one that had been here forever. He got UTEPs name out there by recruited good players. Haskins just had his dumbass assistants go out and recruit JUCOs. Sad to see him go, but sex is the undisputed champ of the world. Too bad he couldn't keep his pants on. Who knows how the program might have been different if he would have coached that 02-03 team? Would he have been fired after? Would BG still have been available?

Hey, MM! Great to hear from you, too!
Yeah, I just pop in every so often to see if there has been any activity on this board, but nobody starts any new threads. Being as I don't have season tickets any more (and very little free time to go to any games anyway), I really don't have a lot of relevant info to post that can't be found over at Rivals. I just read that article and figured I'd share the link with anyone who happened to show up here.
The "what if's" are endless in this scenario. I just feel a lot more sympathy for Rabedeaux now that I know the full story, because I was not a huge fan of his when he left us.
So even if it's just the three of us (and I think MistaBinks still visits every so often), we need to at least stop by and say hello once in a while. I miss talking Miner sports with you guys.
