As some of you may have heard over the last two days, it appears that Isaac Hamilton, the most highly-touted recruit in UTEP history, will most likely not be attending the University of Texas at El Paso.
The breaking story is that his family has requested a release from his Letter of Intent to UTEP, so that he may play basketball in California (likely UCLA or USC) so his ailing grandmother can see him play. A touching sentiment, but I smell a pile of USC-tampering bullshit all over that story, and so does Coach Floyd, who has denied him a release from his commitment to us.

While this whole fiasco is far from settled at this point, I'd bet my season tickets that this ends up with UTEP taking it up the mine shaft.
Also in the "there goes the neighborhood" department, another very talented recruit is also not coming. Sharp shooter Andre Spight failed to earn passing grades, and will attend junior college next year.

I won't say that these new developments mean that next year will be a complete disaster. However, with the loss of a 5-star athlete like Hamilton, and a now gaping hole at the guard position with the loss of Spight as well, things are definitely not looking quite as spectacular as they were just three short days ago.
We all knew landing the recruiting class we did was too good to be true, and now it appears that it always was.
