I do NOT want to start any wild rumors, since details are very sketchy and there are two conflicting reports, but I just heard Steve Kaplowitz talking to Asher Wildman of Channel 7 about an incident this past Saturday night.
Apparently some of the UTEP men were gathered at a club for a birthday party, and Chris Washburn was denied entrance because he didn't have an ID. A little later, the bouncer who turned him away discovered that someone had sneaked him in a back door, so he and another bouncer went over to ask him to leave and come back with an ID. A "verbal altercation" broke out, during which the bouncer was struck in the back of the head with an object (assumed to be a bottle) and cracked a tooth when he fell.
The other bouncer was interviewed, but claims he could not see who threw the punch/object. (Sounds to me like even if he knew, he didn't want to get a Miner player in trouble.)
Coach Tim Floyd is out of town (which is the only reason the team would do something so stupid) and was unavailable for comment. Official investigation is still ongoing, but if any player is actually arrested for assault, it comes with a jail sentence of up to one year. This could spell the end of one of our players' career, and possibly fuck up what was going to be an exciting season next year.
Way to go, guys.

Well, let's see what happens. If that NMSU player can almost kill someone and get back on the team, then anything is possible.

Well.... I posted this hoping someone would have heard more about it and fill in some of the blanks, but so far both the message board and the media is totally silent. I guess that's a good thing, considering the situation...
Anyone heard anything more about this??

There are reports it wasn't Washburn so it looks like he's in the clear.
