This just in... in light of the implosion of the Big East, San Diego State has followed Boise St. back to the Mountain West. Looks like we won't be getting an invite after all. Which sucks, because the MWC is getting lots of attention from most of the sports websites and I think we'd be a great addition.
Oh well....

MWC basketball is going to be ridiculous. New Mexico, UNLV, SDSU, an improving Boise St, always solid Utah St, Wyoming and Colorado St are doing well this season. Not to mention Fresno and Nevada, who are usually pretty good. Only real garbage is San Jose and Air Force. I hate CUSA, we need BYU football to get screwed bad, so they will consider an MWC invite. BYU is our only hope to get into the MWC!
With that said, I expect UTEP to win CUSA in hoops next year. Anything less, is unacceptable.

I'm expecting a CUSA basketball championship in 2014-15. I think the growing pains continue next year when we reload half the team with freshman.

And with the resounding THUD against mediocre Tulsa last night, my confidence in our true ability this year takes another hit...
Tulsa, as always, was aided by the refs when they called 5 seconds on an inbound when we were down 2 with 20 seconds left, even though both Teich and Yellen said two of our players were shouting for a timeout, and Tulsa converted a 3-point play on the next possession to ice the game away. But I know very well that it should never have come down to that. No team who shoots under 30 freakin' percent in the game deserves to win.

If Isaac Hamilton and others are as good as advertised and actually end up playing for the Miners, I don't see any reason why we can't win the Conference title next year. If Memphis won in the past with a bunch of Freshman, there's no reason why we can't. |

Memphis is the exception and not the rule. I am confident we will get to that level and that amount of talent. A mixture of Isaac, Vince, and the current team doesn't make us Memphis - yet.
I'd love to be wrong though.
