UTEP is listed as "should be in". UTEP [21-5 (12-1), RPI: 45, SOS: 125] The Miners won their 11th game in a row on Wednesday, defeating Southern Mississippi 59-56 on the road. UTEP opened a two-game lead in the C-USA standings after Memphis lost 92-75 at Houston on Wednesday. UTEP is 1-1 against RPI top-50 foes and 5-4 against the top 100. Its lone top-50 victory was a 74-65 win in double overtime at UAB on Jan. 30. The Miners don't have much to show the NCAA selection committee from their nonconference schedule, with their best wins coming against RPI No. 66 New Mexico State (road) and No. 104 Oklahoma (neutral court). The Miners host Rice on Saturday, play at Marshall on March 2 and host UAB on March 6. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bubblewatch?id=104

Does Utep deserve to get an NCAA nod??
IMHO, there are lots of reason to say "No"... fewer reasons to say "Yes".
We need for Utep to win the Cusa tourney... and take the decision making out of the judges hands...
But if not... then the bad loses will come back to haunt us.
On the positive: who would have thought New Mexico St would be our best OOC victory at 66... and Oklahoma would be 104 !!
On the negative: we lost to Texas Tech when they were a top 25 team... now they are mired near the cellar of the Big 12 with 11 loses.
We lost to Miss State also when they were a top 25 team... no longer, though, since they have 8 loses.
Nice post Doug...

11 game win streak, the Miners deserve it. If they lose to Rice, they don't
Need to win 2/3 and make the finals...

With that in mind... I don't trust just making it into the finals.
There are too many other teams out there with quality wins that can make a case for going to the Dance... but didn't win their tourney. How do you select the Haves from the Have NOTS ??
Easy... you look for quality wins...
I doubt the Selection Committee will agree that quality wins come from Cusa

This is from CBSSports.com: Conference USA UTEP (21-5, 12-1 Conference USA) Pros Decent RPI, hovering around the top 50. A 6-4 mark vs. the RPI top 100. A 9-3 record in road/neutral games. Wins of note: at UAB, at Memphis, at New Mexico State. Cons Dismal SOS (100+). 15 wins vs. teams outside the RPI top 100, nine outside the top 200. Objectionable loss: at Houston. Outlook The Miners are riding a 11-game winning streak as they roll through their conference schedule, but if they slip up during the conference tourney do they have enough to offer? Soft schedule and poor computer numbers don't help their cause. Last game def. Southern Miss 59-56 Remaining schedule Feb. 27 -- Rice March 2 -- @ Marshall March 6 -- UAB March 10-13 -- C-USA tournament UAB (22-5, 10-3 Conference USA) Pros An RPI in 30s. A 5-4 record vs. the RPI top 100. An 11-3 mark in road/neutral games. Wins of note: vs. Butler, vs. Cincinnati. Cons A nondescript SOS. 16 wins vs. teams outside the RPI top 100, eight vs. teams outside the top 200. Objectionable loss: at Virginia. Outlook Some would argue that UAB had more to offer than UTEP, but with the Miners having beaten UAB in their first meeting, it's imperative the Blazers return the favor in their regular-season finale. Of course, they'd be wise not to look past Tulane and Memphis. Last game def. UCF 53-49 Remaining schedule Feb. 27 -- Tulane March 3 -- Memphis March 6 -- UTEP March 10-13 -- C-USA tournament www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/bubble?tag=coverlist_active;coverlist_footer

I think if UTEP wins the regular season crown outright and they make the championship game, they should be in the NCAAs. Making the CUSA Championship game would be nice because it is televised on CBS, even though its at 930am (MST). Rice will be demolished, but Marshall and UAB will be tough.
