www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/blog/brett-mcmurphy/18873583This guy is rarely wrong. If true, this is not good news for us. Not only are we not moving to the MWC, we are adding 4 AWFUL teams to replace UCF, SMU, Houston, and Memphis. Nothing is official yet, but this flatout sucks. I'm still hoping we slide over to the MWC.

Those assholes in the MWC don't want us for some unknown reason. Never did, never will. I guess we'll just have to strive to be the big fish in this mudhole.
Will the newly assified CUSA even get an automatic bid? That's all we'll be playing for now...

I can't speak for MWC officials but the fans of MWC schools actually do want us. I think it is exit fees that are preventing us from moving over.

Will the newly assified CUSA even get an automatic bid? That's all we'll be playing for now... Yes CUSA will still retain their automatic bids. As will the MWC, no matter who either team invites. One of the reasons they are not going with a full blown merger is because 16-24 teams would be fighting for only one bid in all sports. As MistaBinks said, its not a matter of the MWC not wanting us. I believe the feeling is mutual. They have to find a way to let us go for free and collect exit fees from the 4 Big East teams. Maybe it will be 2 11 team conferences. Nothing is official yet, just looks like CUSA is definitely going to be a 2nd rate league.

The more I think about the expansion, the more is makes me upset. My cousin brought up a good point on another board. I was only thinking about the football part of the "new" CUSA. LaTech, UNT, UTSA, and FIU all fucking suck at basketball. Houston, UCF, and Memphis are all head and shoulders above those 4. SMU basketball is bad too, but I like their hire of Larry Brown. Most of us are familiar with LaTech when we were in the WAC. They weren't pathetic, but their arena is a dump and they have no fan support. FIU is pathetic as pathetic gets. Bad facilities, awful fan support, and they're losers. I remember we played there earlier this decade and Teicher said the arena was a dump. Same goes for UTSA. I remember seeing some of their games when I was younger on Fox Southwest. Their facility is a big-time dump. Like FIU, they have no fan support and are perennial losers too. I remember hearing a story of when we played there in the 80s, that Haskins said the arena was so bad, he would never come back. I hope we never have too. UNT, is not bad, but far from a solid basketball get. I'm told their arena is average, but fan support sucks, and they too are losers. This is not going to be a multiple bid league and UTEP will have to do its work in the non-conference because this CUSA will definitely be an RPI drag. The football lineup sucks (don't care too much since I'm not a big UTEP football fan), but the basketball is FUCKING AWFUL! ECU - joke USM - not bad Marshall - not bad UAB - solid Tulsa - solid Rice - not bad Tulane - joke LaTech - joke FIU - mega joke UTSA - mega joke UNT - meh Is this really who we are going to play and be happy about it? ?

It's who we are going to play. Happy about it is another subject. I just think there is going to be another airport meeting. I think we are going to be on the right side of it this time though.

Big fish. Small pond. That's all we have to look forward to if this is truly the new lineup. I agree with your previous comment that playing this conference schedule will murder our RPI, so to quote the legendary Jake Taylor, "There's only one thing left to do. Win the whole...... fuckin'...... thing."

MWC isn't as attractive now with USU and SJSU. CUSA isn't all that with UNT and UTSA and FIU. It is a bummer either way.
Lets get UNLV, Nevada, CSU, Wyoming, UNM, UTEP, Tulsa, Rice, and Tulane together at an airport. USM if they don't mind bailing on ECU and Marshall.

Utah St was one opponent I was looking forward to playing. They have a good hoops program and have a full arena awaiting the Miners on the road. San Jose St is garbage though. The MWC is hoping that Boise and SDSU want to put their basketball back in the MWC, hoping to get their football back as well. UTEP will have to wait years to get in the MWC. Epic fail on Stull/Natalicio's part. We are stuck with a bunch of crap teams instead of old rivals.

I don't see it as an epic fail. What could they have done differently?

They could have got us an invite to the MWC. Our basketball program is going to suffer and it will be one of the reasons Floyd will leave sooner than later.
I read the MWC board as well and they might be upset they didnt get any Texas schools. I'm just as upset we're going to be in a bad football league and an awful basketball league. UTEP cannot lose to UTSA in football for at least 5 seasons and we better not lose to their basketball team again.

Now I see that Old Dominion and Charlotte are also coming to CUSA. Not too thrilled about that, but it will help basketball. Just don't see how sending our teams to Virginia makes sense. Taking 3 FCS upgrades is really hard to figure too. Hope Stull knows what he's doing.

Too bad Utah St is in the MWC. I seriously hate this league. I feel bad for NMSU, Idaho, Denver, and Seattle. Looks like they have nowhere to go.

Well, ODU officially joined CUSA today. That will be 3 FCS teams CUSA accepted. I know expansion is about markets, but we could have waited and plucked those teams later. I hope the rumors are true that once the CUSA4 join the Big East and we collect their exit fees, we and either Tulsa or UTSA will go to the MWC. That is assumming Boise and SDSU go to the Big East also.
I don't mind the ODU and Charlotte basketball teams, but we don't belong with teams from Virginia and North Carolina. We belong west and I am less than thrilled to be playing the CUSA west teams on a regular basis.
