www.themwc.com/genrel/021312aab.htmlLooks like its a done deal tomorrow. It will be interesting to see if/who is added and when. Add a basketball only in the East would be the way I would do it. Shift us out West and then add Charlotte or St Louis.

As news of this breaks, the bile is already flowing. Fans of the "power conferences" seem to think this is a farce (maybe they're angry that our new conference will have more teams or something?) and are already slamming CUSA and MWC and the remaining schools in them. One asshole on another site referred to all of the schools involved as "Division 1.5" and another said that this new conference could play for a "national chumpionship."
It pisses me right off how not only do we always seem to get left out of every single conference realignment/expansion, but then when we do something like this to try and improve our stock, we still get laughed at.
Screw the haters. I hope this happens and is extremely successful.

I think we will be fine basketball wise. UNLV, New Mexico, and Nevada are usually really good. Wyoming is having a good year, Colorado St beat us, and Air Force is Air Force. Football doesnt matter, we suck and will suck in 2013-14 as well.

Totally agree. It should be pretty cool renewing some of the classic WAC basketball rivalries that were so fun to watch 20 years ago.
Football? Meh.

One day, I hope to get excited about Miner football again. Until then, watching our basketball team try to win a road game will be the only fun.

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure this Katz dude was the same assclown that wrote a scathing article after Tim Floyd was egregiously ejected from the East Carolina game last year. He was calling for Floyd's freakin' head to be chopped off by the NCAA and raved about his unprofessionalism; he even called Floyd a criminal for the unsubstantiated USC allegations. (I wrote him a rebuttal letter, but of course didn't hear a word in return.)
This was a decent article, but fuck this guy as a writer.

Andy Katz is actually pretty friendly to UTEP.

I could be mistaken on the author of that article. I googled it and found the Katz article and it wasn't the one I was referring to in my last post. Sorry, Andy...
