Besides firing Mike Price and hiring someone other than one of his sons.
Sun Bowl Improvements:
I would like to see the El Paso, TX go away during the home season and for the Sun Bowl, put it back on get rid of the UTEP Miners. The football Miners are short on accomplishments, but there are some things you could put over the El Paso, TX side. I've seen it at other schools and I think it would be cool if UTEP put their bowl games and WAC Championship on that side. Kind of like a banner, but a little bit bigger since we don't have that much.
We have the 1988 Independence Bowl, 2000 H-Bowl, 2004 Houston Bowl, 2005 GMAC Bowl, 2010 New Mexico Bowl and the 2000 WAC Championship. Why not put those logos there? It would show that we have done something and it would look better than seeing El Paso, TX there.
Future schedules:
2012 - at Ole Miss, at Wisconsin, vs NMSU, TBD
2013 - at Colorado St, at NMSU, TBD, TBD
2014 - at UNM, vs Colorado St, vs NMSU, TBD
2015 - vs UNM, at NMSU, TBD, TBD
2016 - at Texas, at UNM, vs NMSU, TBD
2018 - at Colorado St, TBD, TBD, TBD
TBD - at Kansas
As you can see, there are a lot of holes in UTEPs schedule. If UTEP replaces Price before next season, I fully endorse an FCS opponent to fill the last slot in 2012. After that though, I think UTEP should stop scheduling them until further notice.
Home and homes should be scheduled with the following schools: Duke, Vanderbilt, Iowa St, Indiana, Northwestern, Colorado, Arizona, Arizona St, & BYU. All WAC, MAC, Sun Belt, and MWC schools should be considered too.
Schedule a 10 game series with UTSA right now! UTSA is going to be a big time football program and playing in San Antonio is a good thing for all San Antonio area Miner fans.
Going back to FCS thing. Scheduling a game vs Eastern Michigan, whether here or there, is way better than beating an FCS team here. If UTEP has to bring in an FCS team, lets have some variety. No more UAPB or Texas Southern. At least Stony Brook was a team we hadn't played before.
There are more things that could positively effect the football team, but those are UTEP's problems. Ticket prices, tailgating, and such, need to be improved, but I think a new head coach will do wonders for this program.
