Reports from the Boston Globe say that UCF will be invited to the Big East soon. Would be a big blow to CUSA from a media market perspective. I believe its in UTEPs best long term interests to be in a more regional league.

The bloggers on that CBS Sports site you linked are dissing C-USA and wondering how good UCF is because they play in it. One even bashed UTEP, saying the "bottom dwellers" bring the conference down.
I suppose these ass goblins have forgotten that BASKETBALL is also played in C-USA. If so, the roles are reversed in his little analysis...

There are bottom dwellers even in the all mighty SEC. Yes, yes, I know, I know, but still...

Whether it be GOOD news OR BAD news...It would be nice to find out which so we can start to sort things out.

Love the new avatar, Realm! That is SO appropriate for most bloggers (ironically enough, not in your case, though).
Back to UTEP... I have a sinking feeling we will be stuck in a gutted C-USA that courts castoffs from the WAC or possibly even lower-level conferences to make a patchwork league. At which time, Bob Stull needs to earn his paycheck and start whoring us out to whichever mid-major will have us.
Very bleak prognostication, I know, but we just aren't respected enough (especially in the football world) to have a shot at moving up. Going down or going nowhere seems most likely when it's all said and done.

In my opinion only, it only hurts if we lose Houston and SMU.
It is not a huge loss if we lose ECU.
UCF can be replaced by the next Florida school. FIA FAU etc...
We need to keep our Texas ties or lateral to the MWC.

Thanks Bleed for the compliment...
As to Utep's considerations/options... I think both Bleed and Mista Mista have made some very SOLID points.

We need to keep our Texas ties or lateral to the MWC. If we lose Houston and SMU, UTEP needs to join the MWC asap. Rice and Tulsa are small Private schools, no need to stay with them. We can always schedule Rice OOC. Losing UCF would be a blow. FAU and FIU both suck. Their basketball teams are garbage. Who would CUSA replace UH and SMU with? UNT and LaTech? Guess that would be ok, but would rather be in the MWC, with or without Boise.

Looks like the Big East will strike this weekend. According to reports its down to SMU & Houston versus Temple. Navy, AFA, UCF, and Boise look to be headed to the BE. Hopefully the MWC will take us.
