NMSU released their basketball schedule the other day and that gives us two dates on our schedule. Nov. 19 at NMSU Dec. 11 vs NMSU www.nmstatesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=9576&SPID=585&ATCLID=205183853&DB_OEM_ID=1900Also, by looking at their schedule, you can see what other teams we might be playing. NMSU has home dates with Southern, McNeese St, and Pine Bluff in December. Look for at least 1 or probably all 3 to come to the Don. Don't mind Southern and McNeese, but I think ALL UTEP fans are tired of seeing UAPB. Hopefully, they aren't on our schedule.

Well looks like i was right about the Southern and Mcneese games. Another ho-hum home slate. Utsa might be a good opener, but without announcing the Sun Bowl field, i have a feeling its going to be total garbage. Sucks Tech and UNM arent on our schedule.

MinerMan,
I'll give you that we stink in Football and people aren't too excited to be playing us...
BUT Basketball is a different story...
I honestly believe the stories that other schools are not interested at playing a tough school like Utep and at a tough venue like the Don.
I'm not even talking about the high cost of airplane travel.
By all means I would like to see Utep schedule a higher quality of opponent... but should we still schedule them if it means having to play a series where we are put to a disadvantage(playing 2 for one for example).
Having to play patsies like the schools you just named is testament to the rep our basketball program has.
I think we're in GREAT hands with a fighter like Coach Floyd and I believe the scheduling issues will be fixed as well.

I just think it sucks that there are only 17 home games this year as compared to 21 last year, and Floyd attributes that to exactly what Realm said... we can't seem to get quality teams to play us here in the Don. We do have road games against Oregon and UNLV this year, both of whom will play us here next season, but this year we struggled to find willing opponents in our building. Season ticket prices better reflect the smaller number of games.

I agree with what realm says. We should take 2 for 1s against power conference teams. If we cant beat good teams in the regulat season, why should we believe we would have success in the post season?
Look at last year, had a ton of home games and didnt beat anybody, got bounced easily in the nit. UTEP should play less home games and play tougher opponents on the road.

Heard that Jacksonville St of the OVC will be in the Sun Bowl tourney.

I had to add that I think the horrible performance in the NIT game was a direct result of the heartbreaking loss against Memphis in the conference tourney, not so much the season schedule. We had a very bad stretch where we lost 3 out of 4 crucial games to end the regular season, seemed to recover in the tournament, and then totally fell apart at the end of what should have been the game that got us into the Dance.
Just my observation.
As for Jacksonville State, don't know much about them... is it good or bad that we got them in the Sun tourney?

Jax St was 5-25 last season. Hopefully they are this years "western new mexico" in the field. If theres a D2 in this years field, they just need to stop the tournament all together.

it is really not a tournament any more..just two nights to embellish the record...

It's definitely the only "tournament" in the history of tournaments that didn't have a winner (last year due to the scheduling fiasco).

The UNLV game will be on the widely distributed MTN channel! Good news for those with directv, not so much for everyone else.

Colorado St, Jacksonville St, and Pine Bluff are the teams in the Sun Bowl Tourney. According to CSUs website, we will play CSU on the first night.

Good ole Pine Bluff. It wouldn't be the same without them.

Now why the heck are the two best teams playing each other in round 1? Does CSU suck as bad as Jackson and Pine Bluff?
