former KY. standout and NBA veteran tony delk has been hired as an asst. basketball coach at new mexico state...I hate the aggies but this is a smart hire that will lend credibility to their program and help recruiting

I agree. Don't know how having an ex-NBA player on your team is a bad idea.

Do you guys think Delk will have a greater impact on their recruiting than Greg Foster will on ours? I never really followed Delk's pro career but Foster played in two Finals...

Do you guys think Delk will have a greater impact on their recruiting than Greg Foster will on ours? I never really followed Delk's pro career but Foster played in two Finals... Interesting question.... Delk was ALL-Everything at Kentucky and got a lot of Nation wide press. Foster's rep definitely wasn't as well known.
Honestly, I would have to give it to Delk... but for Utep's purposes, I like having Foster at Utep.
Now after saying that... I don't know about Foster's penchant for recruiting players to Utep or his ability to teach...
Those abilities will determine which one has the better impact...

Good point Realm. I can't vouch for Foster's coaching abilities (or Delk's for that matter) but I did play on a local rec team under the tutelage of one Luster "Pony" Goodwin back in my younger years. He taught me that not all people can teach others to do something they do well. He was an AWFUL coach, which totally cracks me up, since he was (is?) an assistant at UTEP!! He made us run plays from the UTEP playbook, some of which were so complicated nobody knew what the hell to do. As a result, we were so nervous on the court that we weren't using our natural abilities and were trying to please the coach instead of letting it flow naturally. We got our asses handed to us most days, and his reaction was to throw his hands in the air and give up. He'd call a timeout, and then sit there with his arms folded and not say a word until the ref blew the whistle to start the game again. One time we were losing so badly, he LEFT THE GAME! Got up, walked out of the gym, and drove away. Thanks for the life lessons, coach. I certainly hope Foster is a little better than Pony was! Oh, and I'm a big MWC and Al Bundy fan, but please, Realm, tell me that isn't your leg with the Al tat....
