I am a USC grad and huge basketball fan. This is my first time on this board and was wondering how you like Tim Floyd. There is a split on how people feel about him at USC but I loved him and wish he were still here in L.A. He really got thrown under the bus and made the scapegoat in order to try to save the football program. Boy, . . . that strategy really worked! Anyway, just wanted your opinions. Thanks

Welcome to the forum! It's cool to meet a Tim Floyd supporter outside of El Paso; for some reason most people want to believe that he deserves the criticism he's gotten since leaving USC, so it's nice to know fans like you are out there. We here in El Paso have always wanted Tim to come "home" again, and we know our AD would not have hired him if the allegations were at all accurate, so we're ecstatic that he's here. We know it's gonna be hard to rebuild the team from scratch after losing eight seniors this year, but we have all the confidence in the world that he's the man for the job.
Thanks for joining, and we look forward to getting your unique perspective on the upcoming season, trojano!

Thanks for the welcome. Coach will have your team rebuilt in no time. Glad to see he is well thought of at UTEP. Our AD knew the allegations were not true but he is just a complete a-hole - - thank God he was fired. A lot of us USC fans can only dream that Tim Floyd would return. Our new coach can't carry his clipboard.

eltrojano... along side Bleed, I also wish to convey a strong welcome to you as well.
You may or may not know... Tim FLoyd began his coaching career at Utep under Don Haskins in the 1980s as an assistant coach. So he is NOT an "unknown" to us Miner Fans. Indeed, we know each other very well.
Floyd has morphed himself so that he has taken the best from Coach Haskins... and updated the offense so that it is more fast paced.
Why is this important?? Because today's athlete's seem to be more interested in the offensive side of basketball and put the defense on the back burner.
Coach Floyd works around this by getting inside athlete's heads and stressing the defensive side of basketball by holding "playing time" as the proverbial carrot to get their attention.
Coach Floyd also stresses "Team"... and has shown this by dismissing players who seem to put themselves first... apart from the team. He doesn't play favorites because he has already dismissed players who could have contributed a lot to last year's team.
Those of us who follow Miner basketball are pleased with the caliber of player that Floyd is bringing to Utep... and we have no doubt that we are in good hands.
Indeed... the feeling around here seems to be "In Floyd, We Trust".

Out here, we had a similar slogan, "In Tim we trust". He is a great coach and really knows how to get everything out of his players. He really got screwed here.
