I get my predictions form BCSpn and Mr. Lunardi. Number 12 seed in the big dance baby... but seriously, I think UTEP will actually make it to to the dance this year. never thought I would say this this year, but I would actually see an NIT bid as a disappointment.

I am not very savvy about basketball but I did sit next to coach haskins for over 20 years and and watched the miners for over 42 years...did the PA for many years and I can tell you this is the most athletic team I have seen...NIT-Never! Sweet 16? a great possibility! next year they could be a final 4! also that lousy coach at tulsa (he is on the coaches board that votes) gave UAB and his team points after we beat them both. the only thing good about tulsa is that nolan coached there.

Thanks for joining Strelz. Look forward to your postings. Feel free to post any opinions you have about the state of UTEP football and basketball. Unlike the other boards I allow my members to speak freely and criticize UTEP athletics.

Sportsmanship... Or the lack of it.
Tulsa's Coach Wojcik is willing to conceed Utep played one hell of a 2nd half.
But the win is tainted by Barbie playing up the crowd and influencing the officials so that Tulsa was unable to use the gameplan that was succesful at getting a tie score in the 1st half.
In my book, the officials called a different 2nd half and that played into the host team's favor.
It is bad enough to lose... But to have the officials take it away from you.
That's an insult that can't go unanswered...
You could see Wojcik seething on the bench... and there wasn't one damn thing he could do about it.
Well, almost nothing...

I don't have a problem with that. I also don't consider the win tainted. We have been the victim of the referees becoming too involved in games in the past. A good coach and a good team will find a way to adjust. Sometimes UTEP did and sometimes UTEP didn't. The same could be said about Tulsa. In your book, the Miners pulled away in the second half because of the refs. In my book, Tulsa was able to be tied with the Miners in the first half because of the refs. I know Tulsa fans were in an uproar because Jordan picked up three quick fouls. I say "so what!" Are the refs not supposed to call fouls on Jordan because he is their star player? Is it the Miner's fault they have a deeper bench and can rely on other players when DC gets 2 or 3 fouls in the first half of a game and has to sit down?

Generally the home team has an advantage with the refs. Just look at most box scores. The home team usually has more free throw attempts than the visiting team. C'mon Realm, I know you know this.
As far as Wojcik goes I do agree that he probably left UTEP out because of sour grapes. He's a friggin' D1 coach and former player at Navy. He should be tougher. Ed Davis got to him during the game and he lost his composure. He's a pussy douche.

Say is very true... Utep does use having a very DEEP bench to it's advantage.
I also realize the home team, almost always, benefits from the officiating that is "supposed" to be impartial.
What I'm saying is we've created a WW III situation with Tulsa come Cusa playoff time. It is going to be war according to the Tulsa coach.
Not getting his vote was a prelude to expect no quarter.
Should be interesting to see how the playoff brackets are broken down.
"pussy douche"? ... I had to smile at that one when I read it.
This has been a very entertaing post to read... Thumbs up !!
