Being in CUSA is a joke. Boob Stull caved in to some donors and decided to align UTEP with southwestern teams with no fans. Houston, SMU, Rice, and Tulsa are lucky to draw 3,000 for basketball and 20,000 for football. UTEP should have remained in the WAC and hope for an MWC invite. Our course moving to CUSA was supposed to help the football team in recruiting, but as we can see, it hasn't helped one fucking bit.

We have "History" with those guys. Lot of water under the bridge.
You can still see the fan interest when we play them in either basketball OR football.
You have the Cusa-Lite apologist who will mention EXPOSURE / MONEY is the big reason for the move... BUT there is just no denying that we don't have the rivalries that we used to have....

I think it's an inevitability that UTEP will join the MWC. Conference realignment is just around the corner. Speculation is that Utah and Colorado will go to the PAC-10. That leaves 8 MWC teams. The new "in" thing is to have at least 12 teams in a league so that there can be a football championship game. I say UTEP, Fresno St, Boise St, and Utah St join MWC.

I could see Utah St being replaced by Houston, SMU, or Tulsa. Would make more sense to have a travel partner for TCU.

I admit I prefer the current CUSA over the current WAC. Just my two cents. I understand the opposite view but I simply disagree. No biggie. The only frustrating things is when fans (not meaning anyone here) say we should have never left the WAC because the real rivalries are with Utah, BYU, UNM, etc. Obviously being in the current WAC would have nothing to do with playing against Utah, BYU, UNM etc.

I agree, Strelz. The paper-cup incident, alone, is enough to create a fan for life. I was jumping up and down, listening to the radio. The Miner's were beat, but then they won. How exciting was that?
You are right by insinuating that C-USA doesn't fit us. Why are we traveling to Florida, Mississippi and Carolina? These people aren't our neighbors.
Tulsa and Houston are geographically logical.
mistabinks is right that C-USA is better that the current WAC. When the defection occured, the WAC became a completely different entitity and UTEP can't be blamed for jumping to C-USA. It was a good idea at the time.
Mountain West did great this year with BYU and New Mexico kicking ass. UTEP would be a great fit.
