El Paso Times and ESPN reporting that Tim Floyd is being considered for the vacant Southern Miss coaching job.
While this seems like a lateral move, or even a step down from UTEP, it does make sense since Floyd is from Hattiesburg. If he does plan to retire in the next few years, it would make sense to be there already.
This could mean the end of all hope for the UTEP basketball program as we know it. If we can't keep "one of our own" around here, we will NEVER have a decent coach at this school for any length of time.
Let's keep posting any breaking news on this, and cross every body part you can in hopes that it blows over...

I seriously doubt that USM could get Floyd from us. When Floyd leaves it will be for a big step up, not Southern Miss.

He has a sister and a house over there. That is not major ties. He respects the area. He respects the school. He might have sat down for an interview while in the area (for the funeral of his mother or for his basketball clinic) but he did not "interview for the job." He said no thanks to Memphis and Arizona because they wanted him to interview. There is not way he would interview for USM. He is ours.

USM hired Morehead St's head coach. Surprised Doc didn't get it. Maybe the Illinois St job?
