Much has been said on here about UTEP's marketing. I'm going to the game tonight and I find out UTEP is honoring Antonio Davis and wearing Texas Western Throwbacks? Geez, way to get the word out UTEP!

I dont think they are Strelz. Was only able to listen to some of the first half, but Miners win by 14. Still think this team is CBI or CIT bound. Aj, binks, or BO, how was the Antonio Davis thing?

It was a really cool "ceremony" if a 5-minute presentation can be labeled such. Davis stood in the tunnel and watched a good portion of the game, visited with a few fans, and then was introduced by Jimbo Bowden at halftime. Unlike Hardaway, they only "honored" Davis's #34 jersey instead of retiring the number (the retired jerseys are displayed on white banners, the honored ones on orange).
Davis gave a nice speech in which he thanked the university and the fans for their support of him, ribbed Tim Floyd for having recruited him and then leaving the year he arrived (that got a laugh from the crowd), and said how much he loved and missed The Bear (which also got thunderous applause). It was a very nice speech and he got a great ovation both before and after he spoke. I think these jersey ceremonies are awesome, but I wish they would promote them a lot better than they have. I also wonder how many more they can do before there's no more room in the rafters for any more banners...
As for the game itself, it was very frustrating at times, but very entertaining overall. ECU's entire offense was jacking up the first open three pointer they saw, as evidenced by their 29 attempts (of which they made 10). They hung with us in the first half because we were leaving them open on the perimeter, and they scorched us by hitting 6 of their first 8 treys. They cooled off considerably in the second half, allowing us to maintain a five or six point lead that ballooned to almost 20 towards the middle of the half. The final margin of 14 was pretty indicative of how the game went.
The absolute highlight of the game came, once again, on a dunk right at the end. Julian Washburn (DAMN I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS KID TO KEEP IMPROVING!!) caught an alley-oop from Streeter right under the basket, and threw down a reverse two-handed tomahawk jam. It was FREAKING AWESOME. Too damn bad it wasn't on tv, cuz that would easily have made Sports Center's top ten.
Another strong performance from this team. I'm optimistic about this year!!
