Butler takes Duke to the wire. Almost wins the Nat'l title.
Back when we drew them in the first round many of us, including myself, thought this might be an easy win. Almost all of the "experts" picked UTEP to win.
That's because they come from a very weak conference. The Horizon conference has a decent RPI, only because of Butler. Butler kicked ass and all of the other teams were wimps.
Sound familiar? How about C-USA during the Memphis, Calapari era. Memphis dominated C-USA and went on to do do big things in the tournament.
This is a lesson to me, I was wrong. A lesson for the experts, as well.

uncledoug...
Let me be as gracious to you as Mr. Mista was to me when I was wrong about Utep.
You took the best available evidence at the time... AND you used it to formulate an opinion...
It was wrong... but you gave sound reason for having an opinion.
This Butler team has a never-say-die attitude... and it carried them almost all the way to the championship.
What a game !! I really enjoyed watching it.
Salute to Butler...

That's the big difference between UTEP and Butler. Butler has a bunch of basketball players on its team and UTEP has a bunch of "athletes". UTEP was beating out Tennessee St for our current players, hopefully Tim Floyd will be recruiting basketball players from now on. Barbee's style works well when playing shit teams, but as soon as it plays a real team, it's usually pretty awful.
