I will be impressed if Utep steals a win from the Wildcats in their own building.

I wouldn't expect things to get serious until Utep calls in a professional consulting company to do a nation-wide search for a coach.
They will have a list of all the tangibles that Utep is looking for... and the ability to quietly contact people and gauge their interest.
The speculation will be intense once they've identified the candidates.

Like UtepChunks on the other board.... Realm expected a win here. Especially since we're playing at home with all the advantages that entails.
Next week's game vs Arizona in Tucson will garner MORE of my attention.
It was great to see more fan turnout and vocal support. This should let Timmy know we're all backing him and his efforts to put basketball back on the map in El Paso.
I will make an effort to be at the game in Tucson next Thursday since I live so close by in Phoenix.

While I think he went over the line and I think he should be disciplined over the matter... I like his fire and sense of urgency.
As opposed to Price's layed back style of coaching.
To be honest... it looks to me like he is ripping off the assistant's headphones... but the news wires are calling it a "slap".

Stull can coach football at Utep... BUT has bad people skills....
Price can't coach football at Utep... BUT has GREAT people skills...
I'm intrigued at the possibilities because I think an AD should have good people skills to reach out to the donors
What a great rumor....

One of the benefits of keeping Price around until the end of the year is it gives the Mucky-Mucks time to find the best possible replacement coach out there.
Who amongst us hasn't found himself making a foolish decision because there wasn't enough time...

Houston loses 49-28. I thought So Miss would be tough to run against but their pass defense would weaken against Houston.
Guess that's why they play the game.

Like the others... I hope MinerMan reconsiders and comes back to the board. He's definitely been the Heart and Soul of the board.
But if he doesn't... its been a WILD ride and I understand principles are involved here.
I have to admit... part of me wants to do the same. I'm definitely NOT the prolific poster I once was.
I've been posting for 9 years and I just feel like it is time to do something else.
I'll keep revisiting the board though... how much posting is uncertain.

The departed Wulff was making $600K a year.. I'm imagining Leach will get in excess of 1 mill
How does a college with a small stadium... 35K... afford such a salary??
I imagine they have a financially laden fan base.
Leach would have been one of top 2 choices... Along with Robert Rodriguez.

I just tried to post... couldn't do it cause I'm banned.
Geez... how ironic... the great majority of Miner fans are now in favor of letting Price go...
AND WE'RE BANNED BECAUSE WE'RE NEGATIVE... since our views are in the majority... AREN'T WE POSITIVE NOW ??
Ahh well, I don't agree with the decision.... BUT it was a good ride... and if it helped to push Price over the cliff... then it was worth it.
I stand behind every post I've ever had the pleasure to have written and would NOT change a damn thing.
This experience has taught me that the great majority of Miner fans are not as well versed in their football OR basketball as they may think they are.
They're still Sheeple... AND Sheeple would rather be led than have to do any thinking.

Utep was hoping Tulsa would be looking past this game in anticipation of the BIG finale against Houston… if that was an example of overlooking… I would hate to play a focused Tulsa team.
Tulsa is riding the hottest winning streak(11) in Cusa and it looked like it as they played free and loose and quickly built up a 14 point lead.
Utep seemingly was able to get back into the game when Leilyon Myers ran it in from the 1 yard line to make the game closer at 21-15 with 3 minutes to go before the half.
Then Tulsa broke Utep’s back by returning the kick-off back for a score and followed that up with a 2 point conversion to make the game 29-15 at half time.
2nd Half belonged entirely to Tulsa and the most telling fact is Tulsa converted 6 of 7 third downs and did not punt all day.
Tulsa’s Tyrunn Walker was an intimidating one man defensive wrecking crew and it seemed like he was everywhere until he was finally flagged for a Flagrant Personal Foul against a Utep quarterback and kicked out of the game.
The final score was Tulsa winning the game 57-28 in front of 23,349 subdued fans who came out to wish the Utep Seniors a fond farewell.
A couple of weeks ago, I showed the stats for the Utep vs Tulane game that displayed a lot of parity except for the score where Utep won BIG over Tulane 44 - 7. I’m seeing that trend here again and it puzzles me because, IMHO, this game was completely dominated by Tulsa.
...............Tot Yds… Pass Yds… Rush Yds… 1st Downs… 3rd D%.... Pen Yds….. Turnovers Tulsa….....500……..….. 283…….…. 217…………. 24…………85%.........4/46 ………...2 Utep…..... 443……..….. 266……….. 177…………. 28……..… 53%.........6/66……….…2
Utep is playing with more defensive and offensive intensity than might be expected from a rebuilding team… but is there enough here to warrant another year for Coach Price??
The 23,349 in attendance Saturday brought the 2011 total to 158,486 or about 26,414 per game. The same steady, predictable yearly decline in attendance by the fans. All this despite the Utep administration pulling out all the stops with all kinds of gimmicks to arouse fan interest.
But it never seemed to happen.
El Paso seems to be saying “No” to Coach Price and that should be enough to spell the end of an era “IF” Stull is being honest with himself.
As MinerMan already stated, Coach Larry Coker has already brought excitement to the Univ of Texas at San Antonio in their first year with over 32K fan attendance while still playing as an FCS Independent. I expect that excitement to grow when they transition to the WAC next year.
If I"m looking at how much excitement is being generated by college football... I'm thinking UTSA has already passed Utep by.
Something Stull should also be considering when making up his mind on Coach Price.
Realm… Steve's fine... He's JUST Waiting for Improvement

“Not bad for a quant, but a dog with different fleas” --Gordon Gekko (Wall Street)Honestly, I had no more interest in this turkey of a game than I did watching the Manny Pacquiao-Marquez 3 fight. For me, the winner of this fight was already a given.
Likewise for the ECU-Utep football game, the eventual winner could only generate a “MEH” kind of a response.
ONLY 25,571 bothered to show up at the Sun Bowl... meaning 26K went "MEH" as well.
What would matter... is if we beat someone worth beating... and ECU ain’t it.
This weekend’s game with Tulsa will get my interest. So far it hasn’t happened BUT if Utep wants a LAST chance to get my attention –--this is the last chance for it.
Cheerleaders like to say --- "A win is a win, no matter if it’s by 1 point or 100".
Realist keep their eye on the scoreboard too… and we note that despite the win – we’re in 5th place in the Cusa-West division.
5th Place?? ---MEH

Yeah Bleed... that's what I'm talkin' about...
Very nice... concise... to the point... with some skillful insight.
I was in Cabo all week and just got back... and very glad to read this review.
Nice going my friend.
I definitely share your optimism that Floyd will have this young team come together (defensively & offensively) a little bit every game... and be a force at the end of the season.
BTW, I heard Darius Nelson left the team because he was extremely upset he didn't play in the previous game + the coaching staff was trying to get him to lose even more weight + there was talk of red-shirting him.

It was a cold, vacant night in Mobile, Alabama... No, No.
It was an unexpectedly tough winless Memphis team that kept the Miners from reaching another bowl... Naw, not that.
It was a wind-swept, sullen day in Albuquerque, New Mexico... Nope, that's not it either.
It was a football game in Houston, Texas... a day just like any other game day the Miners would play...
And the question we ALL would have on our minds these days... would the Miners come to play OR not??
Today, at Rice Stadium, it was another in a series of NOT days.
Utep was 4-4 coming into this game after playing a Univ of Southern Miss team tough going into the 3rd quarter. Surely, they would beat a 2-6 Rice team that had looked lost in losing 3 games in a row.
BUT this was November... and Price lead teams have a solid reputation for tanking it BIGTIME during the month of November.
A listless Miner defense allowed the Owls 673 yards on offense while mustering up only 371 offensive yards of their own.
In almost every offensive category, Rice had almost twice the output that Utep did... AND Rice managed a 41 - 31 lead with 3 minutes remaining before allowing the Miners to score a meaningless touchdown that ended the game 41-37.
There is no other explanation than the Miners are soft and coddled and haven't had their bodies and spirits forged tough through training and discipline to withstand the rigors of a complete football season.
This is, unfortunately, another trademark of a Price coached team. We've seen it at Utep for, what, 9 seasons now.
Damn you November !!
