To this day, I never understood why they can't make a list of all bowls according to payout. The highest paying bowl goes on top. The lowest goes on the bottom. You are start at number one and give them #1 vs #2. You go to the second highest paying bowl and give them #3 vs #4. You work your way down to the last bowl. Simply go by the BCS ranking. Done. Your scenario makes perfect sense, but as you know that doesn't apply to college football. The Sun Bowl would rather have 7-5 USC than 9-3 Oregon St because of the name, the other bowls are the same way. They want "name" teams or ones that travel well. All comes down to money.

Georgia Tech is applying for a waiver to see if they can bowling with a 6-7 record, if they get this waiver, they will be playing in the Sun Bowl. As Division Champion, they can fall no lower than the Sun Bowl. This is assuming their probably loss against Florida St on Saturday. UCLA had the same situation last year and got a waiver to play in a bowl game with a 6-7 record.
Not only does the Sun Bowl get GaTech two years in a row, they get them with a losing record. Let's see Bernie Olivas try and sell that dog of a game.

3-9, just like I thought. Stull needs to be fired, NOW!! Can't believe he wants to wait till Christmas to hire a coach. Arkansas said they would hire a coach in 10 days.

Vandy game wasn't even close. 4 straight blowout losses. If we lose to NMSU on Wednesday, uh-oh.

Thanks for joining Fan92. I heard that on KROD. I never post rumors out of left field. I figure they're a pretty good source. I don't expect the next coach to be NFL material, but we'll see.

I thought we would win 1 game, but I think Vandy will kick our ass. Our perimeter play is awful. On the bright side, losing to Arizona, Oklahoma, and Clemson is better than losing to UTSA, Stephen F Austin, and ENMU.

I was really surprised with the Big 10's additions of Maryland and Rutgers, so who knows what will end up happening. All I know is that the new CUSA is not where we need to be. If we stay, thats fine, we just better win the CUSA tournament every year.

If Maryland can afford 50 million, UTEP should be able to handle that. Besides, most exit fees are bargained down.

I don't know if Memphis was being content, they tried to actively get into the Big East throughout the Miners time in CUSA. It's going to be different now because "big names" have left and they have been replaced by teams with no national following. Old Dominion is a nice program, but they're in Virginia and the likelihood of a rivalry forming with them is pretty small. Besides Dallas area alum, who wants to see the Miners play UNT instead of SMU??? The MWC had every right to leave us behind when they formed. The football team was garbage and the basketball team was suffering through Haskins' last years. I would have taken UNLV over us too. The MWC badly wants back in the state of Texas and I am positive they would take UTEP back. As Binks pointed out, we would have to pay exit and entrance fees to go, but I'm confident UTEP could raise the money to go. Great overview, MM. The only thing I wanted to add is the fact that Memphis has been content, at least this past decade, to be the big fish in a small pond, and yet they have still been media darlings and locks for the dance every single year... do you believe we would be afforded the same respect once Memphis leaves? Other than that, I agree that the MWC is the best place for us to be. However, the question of why those bastards have continuously ignored us is baffling. I hated the snub when they broke off from the WAC and didn't ask us to come along, and any time they were looking to expand, we never got a call. Why they didn't want to renew those great old WAC rivalries makes not sense at all. I just wonder if their apparent bias against UTEP will continue, no matter how badly we want to join...

You're right, UTEP had no control over CUSA scheduling, which makes it more frustrating. The league would rather see UTEP play Tulane twice and Memphis play ECU twice, than UTEP and Memphis play twice. Didn't we play USM twice in one year? We should have been playing Memphis. As far as the MWC stuff goes, if we really wanted in, someone will pick up the tab. During those years of transition, UTEP would have to use their marketing team and actually get people to attend the games. It is one thing to say we should be in the MWC but how do you go about it? 1. How does UTEP realistically pay the exit fees? 2. How does UTEP fund the athletic budget after they forfeit their share of Houston's, SMU's, UCF's, and Memphis' exit fees. UTEP would also be forfeiting all of Memphis' NCAA basketball tourney credits. 3. After 1 & 2 above, how does UTEP pay for any MWC entrance fees (if there are any). Also, UTEP had no control over only playing Memphis once a year in basketball. The eastern schools in CUSA banded together and came up with the unofficial east/west divisions to save money on travel. There was no way UTEP would be able to trump 6 eastern schools. It is my opinion that Bob Stull did not fire Mike Price any sooner because he couldn't afford to - not because of friendship. From credible accounts online, UTEP simply couldn't afford to continue to pay Mike Price guaranteed salary plus a new coach. Coach Price was toward the end of his contract so I believe it was more a financial decision than anything else. Not popular, and not best for the athletic program, but sometimes decisions like that have to be made.

Miner fans, With the announcement of highly rated guard Isaac Hamilton committing to the basketball program, we need to see some changes in the UTEP Athletic Department. There are some things that are below standards and downright awful. Before we get to that, a quick comment on the next UTEP football coach. I am glad to see Mike Price finally gone. I have torn him down enough, so no need to do it again. He said yesterday, that he wanted someone from the current staff to take over the position. Hopefully, he is just saying that and not actually believing that. Andre Patterson would be a horrible choice for head coach because he has already been critical of the fans. And the Price sons would obviously be a horrible choice. I don't mind if they keep one assistant on, but a culture change is needed! We don't need under-achievers on our coaching staffs anymore. Back to the matter at hand, in order for UTEP to be a "national" basketball program, a change is needed; a change of conferences that is. The Conference USA that some of us knew and loved is no more. Memphis, UCF, Houston, and SMU are all leaving for the Big East. While UCF, UH, and SMU are not huge losses, they are still better names than their replacements. However, losing Memphis is HUGE. Even though they have dropped off a bit, they are without a doubt the best basketball program in CUSA. The most disappointing thing about CUSA has been that the Miners and Tigers only play once per year! Every year, we have only played once in the regular season. That is stupid in every way possible. How could you have 2 of the better programs in the conference only play once? Coming to CUSA will be Charlotte, Old Dominion, FIU, North Texas, UTSA, and LaTech. Charlotte and ODU are nice programs, but nowhere near the level of Memphis. FIU, UNT, UTSA, and LaTech are crap. Low attendance and nobodies in college basketball. By remaining in CUSA, UTEP will have to have an outstanding record in non-conference play to have any shot at an at-large bid. Besides maybe Tulsa, is their anyone we would miss playing? ECU has horrible basketball, Tulane and Rice are jokes, and who really cares about USM, UAB, and Marshall? So if we leave CUSA, where should the Miners go? That's easy, the Mountain West Conference. The MWC has the UNLV and UNM basketball programs. We would play those two teams at least 4 times every year! Not to mention, Utah St, Fresno St, and Nevada will be in that league. So we can play UNLV and UNM 4 times a year or play UTSA and UNT 4 times per year, which one is more beneficial to UTEP??? ESPN is reporting that BYU, Boise, and San Diego St are considering re-joining the MWC. espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8653727/boise-state-broncos-sdsu-aztecs-byu-cougars-talk-mwc-return-sources-say If that happens, UTEP needs to do whatever it takes to get over there. Do I think it will happen? Probably not. I think the Big East will take more CUSA football teams, and CUSA will take more Sun Belt programs with horrible basketball teams. No thanks. That's why a move to the MWC, has to happen. It just has to. Another thing UTEP needs to improve is their online store and merchandise available to the fans. Check out the University of Montanas store www.mstoreonline.com/ I wish UTEP has some of the gear Montana has. If FCS school Montana can have good looking stuff, why can't we? UTEP has always done a horrible job at it. I remember in 2004 when Price started and had the city excited, you couldn't find, let alone buy a replica Nike jersey. Poor marketing by UTEP and its no wonder they struggle to get fans in their stadiums. UTEP also needs to improve the way they conduct business with media. UTEP thinks they are the CIA and only puts out press releases after multiple websites report stuff. I don't know why the El Paso Times is so poor when it comes to UTEP coverage. There is never any articles on recruits visiting or potential games with schools. When Darren Hunt was there, we would see that. Now, in the digital age, there seems to be less information. How can that be? ? Maybe it is time for a change in AD's. Bob Stull kept Mike Price around after 6 straight losing seasons. No other AD in the country would do that. He didn't want to fire his friend and it was a bad business move. His decisions have to be questioned. His Athletic Department is secretive, puts out poor merchandise, and he really doesn't care about the fans that come out to the games. To recap, change ADs, change conferences, and improve your media and merchandise. "Lesser" schools can do it, there's NO reason why we can't.

I am not a big fan of Miner Illustrated breaking news stories only to post everything on a paid account. This isn't 1995 anymore. I understand they are trying to make money but you have to be more innovative than that. On twitter, someone not named Isaac Hamilton, tweeted he committed to UTEP. I was not familiar with the name. I agree. Who wants to pay $10 a month for recruiting news? Not worth it. I get why he does it, but I wonder how many people sign up for it.

I just finished watching their home opener vs Charleston Southern and if the Miners can hit their outside shots, I can see them winning. Arizona used a run in the final 4 minutes to pull away, but CSU hung in there without a lot of size. Should be a good game.

UTEP at Southern Miss wil be the "PillowFight of the Week" and it will be televised on CBS Sports Network. I am positive UTEP will lose to this team. Playing on the road in November are doom for Mike Price and UTEP. Who will want to go to the Rice game now?

It all depends how we play against Zona, UNLV, etc. If we lose all our big games, 20 wins will be out of reach. I think we will do well in conference play because CUSA sucks.

I went to the game last night and I was really impressed. It was just ORU, but I thought the Miners played a great 2nd half. I hope ORU wins their league, so it will look like a good win later in the year. The uniforms were cool and I wish UTEP would sell them. Pretty good crowd, could be better, but can't complain.
BurritoMan is back, which is good. I don't really care for the videos they played during timeouts, but at least they're trying. Chris Washburn is going to be a stud, very impressed. His bro shot like shit, but it didn't hurt us. Impressed with Ragland. No wonder Perez and Campbell bounced. This team could give Arizona a run on Thursday, hope they do.
