I wonder what happened. He came to this message board at 1027 last night. Wish he have lived to see some Kugler ball.

Thats a problem I have with Floyd too. He grossly oversigns. I can see oversigning by 1, but it's not even close. I feel bad for the kids that chose UTEP and Floyd, just to see them gone after 1 year. I hope the results are worth it. For me the minimum expectation next year is NIT with bubble talk.

Reports are that he is transferring. Recruits like this are the reason I refuse to get excited about players that haven't stepped foot on a UTEP court. He was highly rated and a lot of Miner fans thought he was going to be a great player. Maybe he will, it just won't be for us. Add another to the growing list of Floyd recruits that weren't "good enough".
I'm sick of excuses, I want results.

Thanks for the recap. Still awesome to see UTEP mentioned with all those other schools. Isaac's cousin is transferring from Northern Arizona, maybe he'll end up here. I don't think he's any better than what we're gonna let go this year. Does anyone know if UTEP even recruited him? www.nauathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2012-13/bios/hamilton_blake_j7rh

I dont think Floyd was ever a candidate at UNM or Tech. Maybe he was at USC, doesn't matter anymore since they hired Enfield. I think we're safe from Floyd leaving until he makes some noise here.

Another 2 schools that can make it happen in March. 2 other schools that have raised their profiles, while UTEP sits in mediocrity. Florida Gulf fucking Coast can make the Sweet 16, but UTEP hasn't done so since 1992. Wichita St is in the Final Four? Why can they succeed, but UTEP and some of its fans will think of any excuse to give for losing.
I wish UTEP had the success of those smaller schools....

Another basketball season has come and gone and as usual, it ended is disappointment. No NCAA, NIT, or even "lesser" tournaments like the CBI and CIT. The coaching staff didn't think the extra games and practices were worth possibly "tarnishing" the UTEP name and with the staff ready to eject half the roster to bring in "better" recruits, we look forward to next year. Hopefully it will be as good as some of the cheerleaders say.
Breakdown:
Oral Roberts - Was pretty impressed here. Sadly, this was Chris Washburns best game and he actually got worse as the season progressed!
Arizona - blowout loss. I expected a loss, but this team looked like crap.
Old Spice Classic - Had a good little comeback to make OU score look close, absolutely pathetic in losses to Clemson and Vandy.
NMSU & Idaho - Two must needed wins, sneaked out with a win versus NMSU and let Idaho back into the game to make the final score look closer.
UNLV - Lost opportunity. Thought we could have been headed in the right direction with a winner here. Awful offense and blown opportunities..... A sign of things to come.
Oregon - Easily the Miners best win of the season. Oregon is a really good team. Nice win for UTEP, but ultimately meant nothing as the season wore on.
Sun Bowl Tourney - Beating Pine Bluff is like taking a piss in the morning, nothing special about that. A good win versus Big Ten bottom dweller Nebraska. Pretty impressive, in my opinion. Really blew them out.
Colorado St - Miners fought hard and almost pulled it out, just couldn't hit the big shots and rebound. Would have been huge had we won.
Tulane, Marshall, & HBU - Picked up a much needed road win. Some fans will try and tell you that beating Tulane was a good win, sorry, but they suck. Marshall underachieved this year and we beat them pretty good. HBU should have probably been played between the NMSU and Idaho games. I wonder why we couldn't. Garbage, blowout game.
at Tulsa - Awful, awful, awful. This is where I really started to question what kind of team we had. Turns out very mediocre!
SMU & ECU - Beat up a bad SMU team and went on the road and beat an okay ECU team. Nothing special except for the last second game winner by McKenzie.
UAB - Couldn't believe the Miners lost this game. They were dominating in the 2nd half and the coaching staff decided to take the air out of the ball. Bad mistake. Brutal loss.
Tulane & Rice - 2 easy home wins. Expected every year.
Tulsa & Houston - Awful. Losing to rookie coach Danny Manning twice is one year is tough to accept. Especially since he had a lot of new players. Some fans will make excuses for Floyd's record because of new players, but same logic doesn't apply for other schools. Houston kicked our ass in front of 200 people, embarrassing.
UCF - A needed win. Last time we will play them. "They will be missed" said no one.
USM & NMSU - 2 road losses against good competition, what else is new? Boring game vs USM and awful first half vs NMSU. Again, with a good lead, coaching staff took the air out of the ball and allowed NMSU to come back and win. Last 30 seconds of the game were pitiful.
Houston & Rice - 2 wins the Miners needed and got. Again, wins that should be expected.
Memphis - Probably the last time we will play them. Was a good game, Miners had their chances to win, but ultimately blew it.
SMU - Crushed their sorry asses for probably the last time. With winning 3 of their last 4 and playing Memphis tough, it gave us some hope leading into the CUSA tournament.
Houston (CUSA) - Miners took care of business and put it to the Cougars.
USM (CUSA) - Yes, there were some bad calls, but the Miners didn't compete. Blowout city.
Miners ended their season at 18-14, an improvement over last year, but not what some fans expected for being Floyd's 3rd year. No matter which players are on next years team, anything less than 2nd place in CUSA will be a complete failure. I would say USM is going to be the favorite. MTSU was exposed in their NCAA game, LaTech beat up on a soft schedule this year, maybe Charlotte could be dangerous, but none of the other newcomers should give the Miners any problems.
UTEP cannot lose to UNT, UTSA, FIU, FAU, Old Dominion, Rice, UAB, Tulane, ECU, or Marshall next year. Just can't happen. Losing to those teams next year is unacceptable. NIT should be the minimum expectation and winning a game or two in the tournament is a realistic goal.
Time for UTEP to step up.

Well being in CUSA is a glorified Sun Belt. The Sun Belt remains the worst FBS conference. Tulsa is headed towards the "old" Big East and they finally gave ECU an all-sports invite. Look for Western Kentucky to join CUSA. I don't mind WKU, but I do mind that they are replacing Tulsa. Big loss for CUSA.

For years I complained about UTEP merchandise and a lot of it is not very good or "attractive", but UTEP is getting better. They're doing it in a strange way, but one day they'll "get it". Here is the UTEP bookstore website: www.bkstr.com/Home/10001-15728-1?demoKey=dAnd here is the link from the UTEP Athletics page: shop.utepminers.com/Default.aspx/source/UTEP_bball-PRTLWhy can't you buy that Adidas basketball jersey from the Athletics website? The UTEP shop on the Athletics website has crappy merchandise, while the bookstore has better stuff. It doesn't make any sense, why can't they be uniform or just have one site?

Sorry to hear this MinerMan. It looked like a lot of Digs was embracing your presence and opinions. I had great hopes because unsubstantiated cheer leading is frowned upon even in Digs and I think this is a sign that you're finally getting thru their thick heads. I am still puzzled what it was exactly that got you banned?? Regardless... I expect to see you dust yourself off and adopt a NEW moniker and start posting again. Thanks for saying what a lot of us are thinking. Realm... I think I am going to stay away for awhile. I'll let them do their thing for awhile. It will be interesting to see what their reaction will be when/if Floyd/Hamilton leaves. I don't think it will happen, but I'm sure a lot of them will be upset for a long time.

Houston will be hosting the Texas Longhorns in the CBI. Coach Johnson said on the postgame show of the USM game that UTEP will decline the CBI or CIT. Really? We have some young players would could use the game experience, why would they turn it down? If Houston can host UT, I'm sure we could do just as well.
Should the university decline the CBI, a long explanation is due. Looking at the probable NIT teams, I don't think UTEP has a chance in hell of making it. Should find out in the next 3 hours or so.

UTEP has won 19 of the last 21 games vs SMU. That's how we should be handling teams in CUSA going forward. What makes me sick, is that SMU gets to host Louisville, Memphis, Temple, Cincy, UConn, and Rutgers in basketball next year. Maybe Notre Dame too. While we get to host a bunch of CUSA garbage!
Nice win today. I hope we can make the CUSA final. We'll see. No win is automatic with this team.

I was at the game last night and I was in shock at the 17-14 halftime score. UTEP's offense is pathetic. CJ Copper played really well last night and thats about it. Lang was crap vs the 7'5" dude. I'm still not sure why we didnt bring in Hooper Vint to hack that dude down the stretch. Why would Floyd hold the ball and chuck up a 3 to tie at the end? There was plenty of time to get a quick 2 and foul NMSU and extend the game. Awful.
